PURPOSE: To manufacture magnesium orthocarbonate which is stable even in a high temp. range by adding a water soluble compound contg. P to a slurry or an aqueous soln. of an Mg compound and blowing gaseous CO2.
CONSTITUTION: A slurry or an aqueous soln. of an Mg compound such as Mg hydroxide, chloride, bromide, iodide, nitrate, seawater or bittern is prepared at 1.5W150g/l concn. as MgO. To the slurry or the soln. is added a water soluble compound contg. P such as sodium phosphate, ammonium phosphate, potassium phosphate or phosphoric acid by 0.2W8.0wt% as P2O5 to the amount of MgO. While keeping the resulting liq. at 5W80°C, waste combustion gas having 5W 100V/V% CO2 concn. or gaseous CO2 is blown under 0W6kg/cm2 pressure to obtain magnesium orthocarbonate which is not made basic and is stable even at 40W80°C.
