Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a titled pipe of a long size and a small diameter without acting tensile force upon optical fibers by disposing a pipe making machine and a desired number of drawing dies longitudinally and taking off the optical fiber containing metallic pipe at a prescribed speed through the dies. CONSTITUTION:Optical fibers 6 are supplied together with a metallic pipe 5 to a pipe making machine 1, whereby an optical fiber containing circular pipes 4' is formed and the seam thereof is welded by a welding machine 7. In order to reduce the diameter of the pipe 4', the pipe is supplied to the 1st drawing die 2a and is taken off by the 1st belt-operated fiber take-off 3a, whereby the pipe is drawn. If the additional reduction in the diameter is required, the pipe 4 drawn by the die 2a is supplied continuously to the 2nd drawing die 2b without coiling the same and is taken off with the 2nd belt-operated fiber take-off 3b, and drawn. Thereafter, the pipe is drawn in a similar manner until the pipe 4 of a desired diameter is produced.
