Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a medical high polymeric material, useful as a material for hollow fibers in artificial kidneys, etc., and having a high blood anticoagulating (antiagglutinating) property, by reacting regenerated cellulose with glycidyl (meth)acrylate in the presence of a polymerization initiator, and then reacting the reaction product with heparin.
CONSTITUTION: (A) Regenerated cellulose is reacted with (B) glycidyl (meth)acrylate in the presence of (C) a polymerization initiator, e.g. ceric ammonium nitrate, in water solvent at a temperature of the freezing point of the polymerization solution to 60°C or below. The resultant reaction product is then reacted with (D) heparin in an aqueous solution at 10W70°C to give the aimed high polymeric material. The regenerated cellulose is preferably a molded article, e.g. a hollow fiber or flat film.
