Abstract

PURPOSE: An adhesive composition curing at a low temp. in a short time and giving a cured product with excellent physical performance, which is obtd. by adding ethylene carbonate, glyoxal or ethylene glycol diacetate to a water-soluble phenol resin.
CONSTITUTION: At least one from ethylene carbonate, glyoxal and ethylene glycol diacetate is added as a cruing agent to a water-soluble phenol resin prepared by the condensation of phenol and formaldehyde by use of an alkali. The water-soluble phenol resin. A soln. contg. 30W50wt% said water-soluble phenol resin is obtd. by mixing phenol with formalin usually in a mol ratio of 1:1.5W2.5 and adjusting pH of the resulting mixt. to 10.0W12.0 by use of a strong alkali such as sodium or potassium hydroxide, followed by reaction at 70W100°C for 1W5hr.
