Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain high-precision products at low cost by providing a movable block, which has four cross and uncross optical fibers, between blocks where two input optical fibers and two output optical fibers are fixed. CONSTITUTION:Fiber holders 21 and 22 for fixing input optical fibers 17 and 18 and output optical fibers 19 and 20 are bonded at parts 23 and 24 between stoppers 15 and 16 on a plane base 14. A movable block 25 having incorporated with optical fibers 26-29 is provided between the opposite surfaces of the fiber holders 21 and 22. The block 25 has small gaps g1 and g2 with the holders 21 and 22 and moves between the stoppers 15 and 16, as shown by an arrow, by the length of the diameter of one fiber. The optical fibers 26 and 28 are set parallel, and the fibers 27 and 29 cross in an X shape. The figure shows that light passes through the optical fibers 17, 26 and 19, and 18, 28 and 20, but when the block 25 is moved as shown by a dotted-line arrow, the light passes through the optical fibers 17, 27 and 20, and 18, 29 and 19. Thus, optical path switching with high precision is achieved by the simple constitution.
