Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the azimuth resolution through the convergence of ultrasonic waves, by using a resin member with excellent characteristics as the type of materials of an acoustic lens member and providing a lens in which the acoustic transmission speed is increased toward the external direction. CONSTITUTION:A cylindrical oscillator 2 and an acoustic lens member 5 are fitted to the bottom of a cylindrical single probe main body 1. A plurality of ring layers 5b, 5c, 5d...5n are multiplexedly located on a concentric circle for the lens member 5 by taking a center layer 5a of a small disc as a center and constituted so that the sound transmission speed at the center layer 5a is the slowest and sequentially faster toward the circumference. When the ultrasonic wave transmitted from the oscillator 2 progresses in a living body via an acoustic lens, since the sound transmission speed at the center layer 5a is slow and it becomes sequentially faster toward the circumference, a beam BM1 passing through the external circumference progresses faster and the slowest at the center, howing the wave plane w in the figure.
