Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the weight of a coupler and simplify its structure, by providing a pair of right and left double-acting hydraulic cylinders which are located on the right and left of opposed parts of vehicle bodies and each have two independent oil chambers and expand and contract reciprocally to each other so that the sum of volume is constant. CONSTITUTION:Oil chambers A1, B1, A2, B2 are defined by the pistons of a pair of right and left double-acting hydraulic cylinders 11 connected to the opposed ends of side beams 7, 7'. The oil chambers A1, A2 at the side of a vehicle body 1 communicate with each other. The oil chambers B1, B2 on another vehicle body 1' communicate with each other. Two independent piping lines are provided so that packed oil flows between the chambers A1, A2 and between the chambers B1, B2. When aejacent wheels are parallel with each other, the pistons are balanced to each other by the hydraulic action of the oil chambers A1, B1 or A2, B2 in such positions as to maintain a gap determined by the length of the cylinders 11, to transmit a pulling or braking force to the wheels. Pressure accumulators 14, 14' are provided in the two independent piping lines to obtain a buffer function and prevent it from being lost due to oil leakage.
