PURPOSE:To measure the temperature distribution of the end surface of a skelp highly accurately by arranging a plurality of temperature distribution detecting devices on the positions where the top surface and the end surfaces of the belt shaped body to be measured, synthesizing the output signals therefrom, and displaying the results. CONSTITUTION:A skelp S, which is the belt shaped body, is outputted from a heating furnace 50, passes through forming rolls 51 and a welding roll 52, and becomes butt-welded pipe S'. At this time, the temperature distribution detecting devices 1 and 1' are provided at the outlet of the heating furnace 50. The devices are arranged so as to face the skelp S obliquely from the right and left of the skelp and from the direction of the width of the skelp, so that the temperature distribution on the top surface A-B-C and the side surfaces A-A' and C-C' of the skelp can be measured. The outputs thereof are inputted and synthesized in a signal processing device 2 and the result is displayed on a display device 3. Therefore not only the temperature distribution of the top surface of the skelp but also that of the surfaces can be measured highly accurately, and the product quality can be improved.
