Abstract

PURPOSE:To make the system adaptable for wide operating conditions by a method wherein a first pattern, preferable from the aspect of an output capacity, and a second pattern, preferable from the aspect of the fuel consuming properties, are made selectable based on a plurality of input signals. CONSTITUTION:A computer 100, for controlling the automatic speed changer based on the signals of respective sensors 1-8, controls the solenoids 11, 12 of the gear type speed changing mechanism and the solenoid 13 of the direct coupling clutch. The P pattern, preferring the output capacity, the E pattern, preferring the fuel consuming properties and R pattern, preferring the properties at the intermediate of the P and the E patterns, are memorized in the computer 100, and the P pattern is selected when the speed of increasing the opening degree of a throttle is higher than a predetermined value and the P pattern is selected when the altitude is higher than a predetermined altitude but the E pattern is selected when it is lower than the same, while the R pattern is selected when neighter P nor E pattern is being selected.
