Abstract

PURPOSE: The ester-interchange reaction between a carbonic alkyl ester and an aromatic hydroxy compound is conducted in the presence of a catalyst of a specific metal salt or its complex to produce the titled compound used to produce carbamic esters with industrial advantage.
CONSTITUTION: In the presence of a catalyst composed of at least one selected from compounds of copper family elements and their complexes and complexes of alkalimetals, zinc family elements, titanimu famility elements and iron family elemets such as Li(acac), Zr(acac)4 Fe(acac)3 where acac is acetylacetone, the ester-interchange reaction between a carbonic ester such as dimethyl carbonate or methyl phenyl carbonate and an aromatic hydroxy compound such as phenol, α-and β-naphthol, cresol isomer, is conducted to produce a carbonic ester bearing at least one aryl group.
