Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove the cell wall of chlorella, by converting the chlorella to protoplast or spheroplast using with a mixture of cellulase, macerase and pectinase or a mixture of cerulidine and pectinase.
CONSTITUTION: Chlorella cells of logarithmic growth stage are suspended in a weakly acidic buffer solution, mixed a mixture of cellulase, macerase and pectinase or a mixture of cerulidine and pectinase, and treated at 20W30°C for 2W24hr under light irradiation. The regenerable living protoplast or spheroplast of chlorella can be obtained by this process. The mixture of cellulase, macerase and pectinase is especially preferable for attaining high conversion to protoplast.
