Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the effect of the min. spangle treatment of zinc plated layers by so controlling the treatment conditions that the X-ray diffraction intensity of the specific surface of the zinc plated layers attain prescribed values or above. CONSTITUTION:A strip 2 goes through an annealing and soaking furnace 3, and a snout 4 and is zinc-plated in a plating bath 6; further, it is removed of excess zinc in a gaseous wiping mechanism 7, and enters a min. spangle treatment device 8. In the device 8, the zinc-plated layers are quickly cooled by the mists of an aq. biphosphate soln., whereby spangles are minimized. Thence, the strip is measured of diffraction intensity in an X-ray diffraction device 9, and the min. spangle treatment conditions are so controlled as to attain (IP2-IB2)/(IP1-IB1)> 300.[Here, IP1 is the diffraction intensity of the (001) plane by a zinc powder method, IB1 is the background value thereof, IP2 is the diffraction intensity of the (001) plane, IB2 is the background value thereof.]The strip 2 goes through a skin-pass mill 10 and a chemical conversion treatment device 11, whereby it is made into the plated product.
