Abstract
PURPOSE:To make the accurate determination of the magnetic anisotropic energy constant of cubic crystals possible by the use of ferromagnetic resonance absorption by performing specific calculations from the resonant magnetic field values of the case in which the applied magnetic field is respectively perpendicular and parallel to the film plane and the max. resonant magnetic field value during the time when said film plane makes one turn around the specific direction. CONSTITUTION:The ferromagnetic resonance absorption of a magnetic garnet single crystal thin film 2 having the (111) plane is measured, whereby the resonance magnetic field values H of the respective cases in which the externally applied magnetic field is in the direction[111]perpendicular to the film plane and is in an arbitrary direction within the film plane. Further the resonance magnetic field value Hmax that attains maximum while the film 2 makes one turn around the[-110]direction in the plane. The X value is read from the graph shown by using the above-described three measured values, and further, a uniaxial magnetic anisotropic energy constant Ku and a cubic crystal magnetic anisotropic energy constant K1 are determined by using the equationsI, II. Here, the M in the equations is the value of magnetization when the saturation magnetization of the material is defined as 4piM.
