Abstract

PURPOSE:To elevate the knocking sensitivity by detecting only hydraulic pulsation component with a pressure gathering construction section. CONSTITUTION:A conical pressure gathering construction section 3a is formed on the outer wall 8 of a cylinder block in such a manner as to be expanded in the direction of a cooling water system 6. A detector 2 is mounted with a screw in such a manner that a diaphragm thereof is exposed to a cooling water in the pressure gathering construction section and when knocking is generated, a hydraulic pulsation occurs in the cooling water system 6. The pulsation propagates through the cooling water and reaches the pressure gathering construction section 3a formed on the outer wall 8, with which it is amplified, applied to the diaphragm of the detector 2 in the direction A so that the diaphragm 202 will pulsate and displace according to the hydraulic pulsation. A stress is applied to a piezo-electric element 203 to generate an electrical signal directly, which is fed to a detection circuit whereby the ignition timing is controlled.
