Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable control of the rotating speed of a DC brushless motor having good power factor by suitably chopping the rectified output voltage of a rectifier via a step-up chopper and a step-down chopper to shape the voltage to flat waveform and supplying the voltage to a polyphase inverter. CONSTITUTION:A step-up chopper 13 is operated in a zone Tb of low rectified voltage Vr from a rectifier of diodes 1, and a step-down chopper 9 is operated in the zone Ta, thereby obtaining a DC voltage Vd by smoothing the output voltage Vc of the chopper 13 as shown. This voltage Vd is supplied to an inverter having a transistor 5, and a DC brushless motor 6 is driven by the output of the inverter. The rotating speed control is performed by varying the DC voltage level by suitably controlled the current flow rates of the choppers 13, 9.
