Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent clip and distortion of power waveform by detecting the current level of an output signal of a power amplifier circuit and providing a current detection circuit that generates output at a specified level or above and operating a control circuit by this circuit output.
CONSTITUTION: When speaker impedance is Z<4Ω, a current detection circuit 16 operates, and if the current flowing in a speaker 15 is within the range that does not generate clip, that is 12W, a power amplifier circuit 12 is in A-class condition. When the current value exceeds the above value, output V0 appears in the current detection circuit 16. By this, a comparator 17→a monostable multivibrator 18→a control circuit 19 operate successively, and three electronic switches S1, S2, S3 are turned on, and becomes AB-class ∼ B-class condition. Accordingly, even if the load of the main amplifier, that is, the impedance of the speaker changes to the direction of decrease, clip is not generated by this, and distortion is not caused.
