Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the load caused by using an ink roll by a method wherein the ink roll presses against a font wheel in such a manner that the pressing direction in biased from the center of the font wheel so as to assist rotation thereof. CONSTITUTION:A cylindrical ink roll 13 is held by a holder 14 and pressed against a font wheel 16 by a spring 15 with a shaft 22 being as a fulcrum such that the surface of the ink roll 13 comes into contact with font 12 to supply ink necessary for printing. At this time, the ink roll 13 is pressed by the spring 15 with the fulcrum shaft 22 being so positioned that when the font wheel 16 rotates in the direction of an arrow 20, the pressing direction 21 of the ink roll 13 against the font wheel 16 is biased from the center of the font wheel 16 as illustrated. An amount of this biasing is selected as large as possible taking into account the sizes of the font wheel 16 and the ink roll 13 as well as proper ink supply. By so doing, pressing by the ink roll 13 serves to assist rotation of the font wheel 16 and hence the load caused by the ink roll 13 can be reduced during rotation of the font wheel 16 and at the time of starting thereof.
