PURPOSE:To reduce cost by easily modifying a control program by providing two CPUs to the system control unit of a facsimile equipment, and allowing one CPU to control transmission, etc., and the other to control mechanism, etc. CONSTITUTION:When a power switch SW is turned on, only a subordinate power source part 1601 is turned on to place a slave CPU1001 in a stand-by state, and this CPU monitors the presence of an original at a reader, the presence of recording paper at a development part, and the state of a system with a start switch on, and then turning on a main power source part 1602 once detecting an instruction signal for the start of transmission or reception, a telephone call signal, or other predetermined factors for turning on the main power source. Then, a master CPU1002 controls a mechanism control system which exercises original feed control over a scanner during transmission, paper feed control over a plotter during reception, and control over the scanner and plotter in copy mode.
