Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the life-time of a discharge lamp by temperature control of a cathode electrode part in a system separated from a light emission part. CONSTITUTION:Laser oscillation increases the temperature of the cathode electrode part 20 by exothermicity with the temperature of a cathode electrode end part 30 increased with the temperature of the cathode 28 to increase the temperature of a thermoelectric conductor 41. This temperature is detected by a temperature detector 42 to transmit the electric signal corresponding thereto into an arithmetic unit 44. The arithmetic unit 44 calculates the difference between this signal and a set value previously inputted in a reference setter 43 to input the result into a control unit 45. Thus, a heating or cooling unit of the control unit 45 operates to adjust the temperature of the cathode 28 by heating the electrode end part 30 via a conducting surface 47. The constitution of a cathode temperature controlling part provided separately from the temperature controlling part which controls the temperatures of the other parts can keep the cathode constantly at an appropriate temperature for input change.
