Abstract

PURPOSE:To lower the potential of the surface of a recording material effectively, by bringing a bias applying member into contact with the surface of the recording material and obtaining a discharge space by this bias applying member and the ruggedness of the surface of the recording material. CONSTITUTION:In this invention, minute rugged parts are provided on all of the surface of a recording material belt 1. Consequently, when a bias roller 20 is brought into contact with the surface this recording material, minute spaces are formed between the bias roller and the surface of the recording material and become gaps for discharge. The polarity of a voltage applied to the bias roller 20 is opposite to that of the voltage applied to a stylus electrode 9, and the voltage applied to the bias roller 20 is so set that the sum of absolute values of the potential of a dot charged part on the belt 1 and the bias potential exceeds the voltage for discharge start between the bias roller 20 and the belt 1. Thus, the potential of the surface of the recording material is lowered efficiently.
