Abstract

PURPOSE:To stabilize the slip characteristics on the surface of an expander metal mold as well as on the inner surface of a can, by applying a special reforming surface treatment to the surface of the metal mold to lower the dynamic friction coefficient. CONSTITUTION:An expander metal mold A is formed into an external appearance of a barrel shape by the outer circumference surface of a split mold 1 group which is longitudinally divided into a radial form. On the other hand, a taper mandrel 2 is pierced vertically into an axial core in a freely movable way in the axial direction, and a tensile coil spring is wound round ring grooves 3 and 4 provided on the outer circumference surfaces of the mold 1 group and a flange base end 1a. Thus the mold 1 group is converged to the mandrel 2. At the same time, a hard electrodeposited film of a hard chrome plated layer in which a bag-shaped minute crack is chemically produced and coated is formed on the outer surface of the mold A. The polytetrafluoroethylene resin which is cooled and contracted is put into the crack of the chrome plated layer. In such a way, a deforming surface treatment is applied with the synergistic properties of the chrome plated layer and the polytetrafluoroethylene resin, i.e., the non- tackiness, a low friction coefficient, the durability, a high degree of hardness, etc. Thus a production is possible with the continuous repetitive forming.
