Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a nonpoisonous and inexpensive optical recording medium where recorded data can be erased and rewritten and recording is stable, by deforming physically a recording layer consisting of a hot melt substance by selective heating and prevent a base material from being exposed in the deformed part. CONSTITUTION:A physical deformation which is discriminated optically is applied to a recording layer 22 provided on a base material 29 to record information. The recording layer 22 of this optical recording medium consists of a hot melt substance, and said physical deformation is given by heating selectively the recording layer 22, and the base material 20 is prevented from being exposed to outside air in a physically deformed part 26. For example, the base material 20 consists of glass or acrylic resin, and the recording layer 22 consists of styrene lower polymer compound, and a thickness (t) of the recording layer 22 is made larger than a diameter (d) of a recording pit 26. Information is recorded by forming the pit 26 having a diameter of about 1-2mum with irradiation of a laser beam.
