Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a high-precision range output by setting a state equivalent to that when a target is moved minutely by periodically varying the phase of a received wave by a phase shifter. CONSTITUTION:A microwave from a microwave oscillator 12 is modulated by an AM modulator 13 and then transmitted from a transmitting antenna 15 to a target 16. A reflected wave reflected by the target 16 is received by a receiving antenna 17 and then supplied to a variable phase shifter 18. This variable phase shifter 18 varies the phase of the received wave periodically. The resulting signal is inputted to a phase comparator 21 through an amplifier 18 and an AM detector 20, and phase-compared with a low frequency signal for modulation from a low frequency oscillator 13. The output of the comparator 21 is inputted through a smoothing circuit 22 to a distance arithmetic circuit 23, which calculates a range.
