Abstract
PURPOSE:To detect relative humidity and the concentration of gaseous alcohol with one element, by using magnesium ferrite (MgFe2O4) having spinel structure. CONSTITUTION:As a starting material, an extra pure reagent MgCl2.6H2O and FeCl2.4H2O, are weighed so as to be Mg:Fe=1:1.33-1.3mol ratio and are dissolved to water. Oxalic acid is weighed in 1.5-time equivalent based on Mg+Fe equivalent and is dissolved to water. This solution is injected into said solution and a coprecipitate of oxalate is formed and then, this copecipitate is filtered, washed and dried. Obtained yellow powder is calcined and hereafter, said powder is put in a press metallic mold and is burnt after forming. This sintered body 1 is MgFe2O4 and a gas-sensitive and humidity sensitive element is obtained by attaching a porous electrode 2 and lead wires 3a, 3b on both faces of the body 1. Thus formed element shows variations of >= two digits in resistance value at 0-100% relative humidity and also, responds to gaseous alcohol selectively by keeping at 200-400 deg.C.
