Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a porous hollow fiber of glass efficiently, by extracting B2O and Na2O from the surface of a hollow fiber of borosilicate glass to form the thin layer surface having pores, subjecting the rest to heat-treatment phase separation, eluting B2O and Na2O with an acid. CONSTITUTION:B2O and Na2O are extracted from the surface of the hollow fiber 1 of borosilicate glass by acid treatment, etc., and the thin layer 4 having innumerable uniform pores is formed. For example, in case of sulfuric acid, the acid extraction is carried out at normal temperature - about 95 deg.C for about 1-50hr using about 0.5-3N aqueous solution of sulfuric acid, and the thin layer 4 is about 1,000Angstrom thick. The phase separation is done by heat-treating the glass at about 500-650 deg.C, so that B2O and Na2O are concentrated. After the phase separation is over, B2O and Na2O are eluted from the parts of the phase separation by acid treatment, etc., removed, and the gas permeable path 2 passing through the pipe except the thin layer 4 is formed. For example, in case of sulfuric acid, the acid treatment is carried out at normal temperature - about 100 deg.C for 10-50hr by using about 0.5-3N sulfuric acid solution.
