Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for a mask and to achieve excellent detecting operation by providing a photodetecting elements where the array pattern of photodiodes is decided corresponding to the slit width of a disk. CONSTITUTION:The array pattern 12 of photodiodes 10 corresponds to the width of the slit 7 of a photoencoder disk 2. Consequently, the need for a mask is eliminated, and positioning is therefore unnecessary, reducing the cost. In addition, a gap between a light emitting element 4 and a photodetecting element 5 is shortened, and consequently the output levels of the photodiodes 10 are increased, so that excellent detecting operation is achieved.
