Abstract

PURPOSE: In a reaction system where cholesterol esterase and/or cholesterol oxidase are made to act on chelesterols in serum, a surface active agent with a single polyoxyethylene chain is used to effect the acceleration and activation of the reactions.
CONSTITUTION: Ester-type cholesterols in serum is hydrolyzed with cholesterol esterase into free-type cholesterols and free-type cholesterols are oxidized with eholesterol oxidase to form hydrogen peroxide, wherein a surfactant with a single polyoxyehtylene chain of the formula (R is 8W14C alkyl, n is 5W10 integer) is used to accelerate and activate the enzymatic reactions. The hydrogen peroxide formed is made to act on 4-aminoantipyrin in the presence of peroxidase to cause a coupling reaction with a couper of phenolic pigment and the colorimetry is effected. Any phenolic pigments may be used as a coupler.
