NEW MATERIAL:A 1-[trans( equatorial-equatorial )-4'-n-alkylcyclohexyl]-2-4"- [trans( equatorial-equatorial )-4'''-n-alkylcyclohexylphenyl]ethane of formulaI (R1 and R2 are 1W5C straight chain alkyl).
USE: A nematic liquid crystal compound.
PROCESS: A compound of formula II is reacted with a compound of formula III anhydrous aluminum chloride in CS2 or nitrobenzene to give compound of formula IV, which is then reacted with hydrazine and KOH in diethylene glycol or triethylene glycol to afford the compound of formulaI.
