Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the titled substrate having a smooth surface for transmission of the light and a waveguide having a clear region for transmission of the light, by burying a light transmitting medium into a U-shaped groove provided on the surface of the substrate. CONSTITUTION:A U-shaped groove 21 is formed on the surface of a substrate 22 made of one spinel, alpha-Al2O3, SrTiO3, BGO(Bi12GeO20), etc. by the photographic process. Then a light transmitting medium 23 made of BaTiO3, PbTiO3, BTO(Bi12TiO20), etc. having a larger refractive index of light than the substrate 22 is buried into the groove 21. As a result, the width accuracy of an optical waveguide can be set at <=1mum to obtain a substrate for optical circuit which is effective to a function device for the miniaturization and integration of an optical device and the integration of an optical IC, etc.
