Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable the control of th speed of an LIM carrier relatively inexpensively by comparing the running speed of the carrier with the desired threshold value at the time of facing between the carrier and a primary coil and exciting the primary coil only when the running speed is withing the desired threshold value. CONSTITUTION:The outputs of optical sensors 101-10n are inputted through amplifiers 121-12n to a controller 14, which calculates the position and speed of a carrier 5 and picks up the speed data corresponding to the calculated position from the speed setter 16 containing desired speed data corresponding to the station position. The controller 5 discriminates whether the carrier 5 faces with the primary coil 2 of the LIM or not, deenergizes the primary coil if not, compares the running speed with the prescribed value from a speed setter 14 if faced, deenergizes the primary coil if the running speed is larger than the prescribed value and continues the energization if small by controlling the ON or OFF of the switch 18 and the multiplexer 20.
