Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the titled electrical wire and cable having excellent flame retardancy and fire resistance, and giving strong inorganic residue by combustion, by coating the wire, etc. with a paint containing specific amounts of an acrylic ester resin, a halogen compound, a phosphate frit, an inorganic filler, and incombustible fibers.
CONSTITUTION: The objective composition is prepared, e.g. by compounding (A) 9.5W23wt% acrylic acid ester resin, (B) 0.5W10% halogen compound (preferably used in combination with antimony trioxide), (C) 3W20% phosphate frit (preferably having a melting point of ≤500°C), (D) 20W40% inorganic filler, and (E) 0.3W5% incombustible fibers. If necessary, the composition is further compounded with pigment, thickener, defoaming agent, rust-proofing agent, antiseptic, etc. The composition is processed in the form of paint or a sheet tape, and an electrical wire or cable is coated or wound therewith.
USE: Useful as an insulation layer of a cable composed of a combustible material such as polyethylene.
