Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect thundercloud correctly, by measuring an electric field in the air by using an electric field meter and deciding whether the situation of its variation coincides with the previously set conditions or not. CONSTITUTION:Holes 8 are provided on the upper surface of a case 7 and an electric field meter is constituted in the case 7 by disposing a collector 10 to be rotated by a motor 9. When the collector 10 made of a metallic plate is rotated and faces to the air through the holes 8, it performs current collection and when it is cut off from the air, it discharges electricity and detects an electric field intensity in the air as alternating signals. By such method, the presence or absence of an electric field having intensity stronger than the prescribed value, the time or ratio which said field intensity occupies in the fixed time and the frequency of polarity variation of electric field value are calculated, and it is decided whether the thundercloud exists or not. The detection of thundercloud is more exactly performed in comparison with the measurement by a radar because thundercloud before thunder rolls is detected through the character of its electrification.
