Abstract
PURPOSE: To uniformly cool a profiled bar steel material throughout its whole length by a method in which a large number of nozzles inclined at a given angle to the normal line of a cylinder are provided to the cylinder in such a way as to give cool?ing water jetted a swirl flow with a given hollow portion.
CONSTITUTION: A cooling cylinder 14 consists of an outer cylinder 9 provided with a cooling water-inducting pipe 11 and an inner cylinder 10 provided with a large number of cooling water-jetting nozzles 12 arranged at a given angle to the normal line of the inner cylinder 10 and at given equal intervals on the same circumference of the inner cylinder 10 and also in the axial direction of the inner cylinder 10. Cooling water jetted from the nozzles 12 begins to swirl along the inside circumference of the inner cylinder 10 due to the occurrence of an inertia when the flow rate reaches a certain value or more, and by its centrifugal force, a hollow portion 13 is formed along the axle of the inner cylinder 10. The diameter of the hollow portion 13 is adjusted to a diameter smaller than the nominal one of a profiled bar steel material, e.g., 50W80% of the normal one, by varying the diameter of the inner cylinder 10, the amount of water charged, and inclined angle of the nozzles 12.
