Abstract

PURPOSE:To transfer vertically and horizontally aligned articles to the desired place by retreating clamping plates for clamping the front and rear of the group of vessels, with only the front clamping plate lowered, and then lowering the rear clamping plate so as to clamp the front and rear portions of the group of vessels. CONSTITUTION:A traverser 6 provided with clamping plates 10, 10' is moved backward by movement of a chain 15, with the front clamping plate 10 lowered, and with the rear clamping plate 10' positioned above. When the front clamping plate 10 is brought into contact with the front end surface of the uppermost group of vessels 40, a driving motor for moving the traverser 6 is stopped, and then the rear clamping plate 10' is lowered so that the uppermost group of vessels 40 is clamped by the front and rear clamping plates 10, 10'. Then, the motor is driven in the reverse direction so that the traverser 6 is advanced to a conveyer belt 18, with the group of vessels 40 clamped by the clamping plates 10, 10'.
