Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a metal pigment composition for an electrostatic coating paint with excellent electrical insulating property, by the polymn. of a compd. having a polymerizable double bond and an epoxy group in a specified org. compd. followed by the coating of the surface of a metal pigment with the resulting polymer.
CONSTITUTION: In obtaining a polymer (B) by the reaction of a compd. (A) having a polymerizable double bond and an epoxy group, the compd. A is polymerized in the presence of a polymn. initiator in an org. solvent in which the compd. A is soluble but the polymer B is insoluble. A metal pigment composition of dielectric strength ≥30kV is obtd. by coating a metal pigment with the polymer B. It is pref. to use 1.0W30pts.wt. polymer B for 100pts.wt. metal pigment, because at less than 1.0pts.wt., it is impossible to obtain necessary dielectric strength while at more than 30pts.wt., cost is increased without enhancement in performance.
