Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable a previous printing to be automatically erased at a better operation efficiency by a single control, by a method wherein, in a typewriter provided with an erasing mechanism, a memory, storing a given number of previous printings, is mounted, and an instruction part, instructing a previous printing range, is also installed. CONSTITUTION:Fourteen printed letters, retroacting to the past from a latest one, are stored in a memory 44 by means of a code signal, and a range of the stored letters is indicated by a mark 21 on a paper meter 19. In case a latemost printing of previous printings is erased, with an erasing key 41 actuated, a solenoid 55 is excited by means of a contro signal from a CPU43 to back-space a carriage by one letter. Meanwhile, the latemost letter is read out from the memory 44, the type is selected, an erasing ribbon, simultaneously, is lifted up to a printing position, and a printing hammer is then operated to erase the latemost printing. In case a printing which was performed previous to the latemost printing, is erased, after a back-spacing is performed, the erasing key 41 is operated.
