Abstract

PURPOSE: The titled metal pigment composition with excellent corrosion resistance, metallic luster and clarity, evolving little gas in an aqueous medium, which is prepared by coating a metal pigment with a specified epoxy polymer.
CONSTITUTION: A metal pigment particle such as Al, Cu or Zn is coated with a polymer (B) obtd. by the polymn. of a compound (A) such as an epoxidized polybutadiene having a polymerizable double bond and an epoxy group, to obtain the titled composition evolving 3ml or less gas per g of the metal pigment. Namely, the surface of the metal pigment is coated with the polymer B obtd. by the addition of the compound A and the metal pigment to an org. solvent dissolving the compound A but not dissolving the polymer B followed by the polymn. of the compound A. It is pref. to coat 100pts.wt. metal pigment with about 1W30pts.wt. said polymer.
