Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve printing speed and to reduce power source capacity, in a thermal printer provided with heating elements for one line, by selecting the number of simultaneous printing groups in correspondence with black dot printing data. CONSTITUTION:When recording data b and b' are read out of a line memory 2, the number of the black dot printing data is counted in a counter 6. The counted data K is sent to a timing control circuit 3 and a comparator 6 and compared with a preset value X. In the case the counted value K is larger than the preset value X, the recording data b and b' are sequentially printed. In the case the counted value K is smaller than the preset value X, the recorded data b and b' are simultaneously printed. In the case counted value K is zero, printing is not performed, and the following two recording data are read and the same operation is repeated.
