Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a thermoplastic resin compsn. which has excellent mechanical strength and moldability and gives molded articles having excellent surface gloss, by mixing an ABS resin latex with a specified unsaturated carboxylate ester polymer latex and precipitating solids.
CONSTITUTION: A graft copolymer latex (A) obtd. by copolymerizing an arom. vinyl monomer and an acrylic monomer in the presence of a diene rubbery polymer latex, is mixed with a latex (B) which contains particles having a glass transition temp. of 5W-60°C and an average particle size of 0,2μ or larger and in which gel content in polymer solids is 50wt% or higher, said latex B being obtd. by emulsion-polymerizing an unsaturated carboxylate ester monomer or a mixture of said unsaturated carboxylate ester monomer and a vinyl monomer copolymerizable therewith. Components A and B are mixed in the form of a latex and resin solids are precipitated. When said latex B contg. particles having a glass transition temp. not higher than -60°C is used, lowering in the rigidity of the precipitated resin is remarkable. When the glass transition temp. is not lower than 5°C, lowering in impact strength is remarkable. Thus, the use of such latex is not preferred.
