Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable speedy masking work, in the partial coating method of a helmet, by applying a tension force to the opposite ends of a flexible masking plate attached to a base so that the masking plate comes in close contact with the uncoated part of the convex-curved surface of the helmet.
CONSTITUTION: A helmet H whose whole convex-curved surface is coated with the first color paint is positioned at the side of a masking plate 6 and mounted on a mounting base 3. The helmet is arranged at an accurate position by inserting the pins 24, 24 of a positioning plate 23 into attaching holes h, h. Thereafter, the first masking plate 6 is turned down, a pin 9 is inserted into the through hole 10 of the masking plate 6, and the upper surface of a bent piece 6a is pressed by operation of a clamp means 11 to apply a tension force to the opposite ends of the plate 6 by its flexibility and to bring the plate 6 into close contact with the helmet. Each divided part 131, 132 of the second masking plate 13 is advanced and let clamp the helmet, and a metal fitting 19 is engaged with a locking means 18 to apply a tension force to the masking plate 13 by utilization of its flexibility . In this way, the upper inner surface of each divided part is brought into close contact with the helmet. Thereafter, the right and left top parts of the helmet exposed from the first and second masking plates 6, 13 are coated with the second color paint.
