PURPOSE:To obtain a display unit giving a clear display during operation by a method wherein a streak on a glass face plate such as cover glass is covered with a hardened silicone coating film. CONSTITUTION:A hardened silicone coating film 3 is preferred to be transparent and provided with a harder surface and good adhesion to cover glass 2. For the preparation of the hardened silicone coating film 3, a fluorescent display unit with a streak on its cover glass 2 is soaked into ethylalcohol to clean the unit, which is then dried. Subsequently, a covering agent of silicone resin is applied to the cover glass 2 through either the brushing, dipping, or spraying method and the glass is naturally dried at the room temperature so that the solvent contained in the covering agent of silicone resin is volatilized. After this, the cover glass is heated in a drier so as to harden the silicone resin and a hardened silicone coating film 3 is produced. As a covering agent of silicone resin, one of the silicone varnish, agent of silicone series for preventing electrification, surface hardening agent of silicone series and the like can be freely selected.
