Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve propelling performance and facilitate production of a propeller by providing an auxiliary blade near and along the lower front edge of a ring strut. CONSTITUTION:A fin type device 7 for improving propelling performance comprises a boss 8 surrounding a propeller shaft, a plurality of fin members 9 provided radially of the boss 8 and a ring strut 10 interconnecting the outer ends of the fin members 9 and having a stream line section. A pair of small brackets 12 are secured fixedly to the lower front edge of the ring strut 10 and an auxiliary blade 13 spans the pair of the small brackets. In this device, a substantial angle of incidence of the ring strut 10 in a portion on which the auxiliary blade 13 is mounted can be varied from theta0 to theta1 so that a propeller can adapt itself delicately to ascending flow 11 produced near the lower portion of the ring strut by the advance of a ship to provide a satisfactory propelling performance.
