Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a high density recording medium by coating a base with magnetic paint formed by adding 10-18C higher saturated fatty acid and polyoxyalkylene fatty acid ester to magnetic powder of iron oxide which contains cobalt. CONSTITUTION:This magnetic recording medium is formed by adding 10-18C higher saturated fatty acid and polyoxyalkylene fatty acid ester by 0.1-5wt% each to magnetic paint which uses magnetic powder of iron oxide containing cobalt, and then coating a base with the resulting paint. Thus, fatty acid and polyoxyalkylene fatty acid ester are used in combination to obtain the high improving effect for dispersibility of the magnetic powder even when the amount of fatty acid is small. In addition, the falling of the powder is reduced and a tape squeaking is eliminated and running performance is improved greatly while a bleed-out phenomenon is suppressed, thus obtaining a medium suitable for high-density recording.
