Abstract

PURPOSE:To avoid an irregular injection by a method wherein a lift amount regulating device is provided in the fuel injector to select the amount of the lift of a needle valve to the predetermined value thereof in accordance with the operating conditions of the engine. CONSTITUTION:A piston 18 is arranged in a cylindr 17 in the lift amount regulating device 15 so to be intersected with the operational direction of a movable spring seat 9. Provided at the movable spring seat side is an abutting surface 20 against which the upper end 19 of a connecting rod 9a for the movable spring seat 9 is abuttable. The abutting surface 20 is divided into steps 20a, 20b, 20c forming three steps. A stopper 21 and a retaining section 22 are formed at the opposite side of the movable spring seat of the piston 18 so as to have a configuration of a recessed groove along the axial direction thereof while the selection of the fixed position of the piston 18 or the abutting surface 20 is effected by an engaging condition between the retaining section 22 and the stopper 21. The stopper 21 is determined through an actuator 23 in accordance with the revolution number and the load of the engine.
