Abstract

PURPOSE:To miniaturize a transformer by a method wherein the switching device ON-state period is roughly in inverse proportion to an input voltage and the OFF-state period is controlled in response to an output voltage or output current detected. CONSTITUTION:An ON-state width controlling circuit 13 detects an input voltage and yields an ON-state pulse signal the width thereof roughly in inverse proportion to the input voltage. An OFF-state width controlling circuit 14 detects an output voltage and adjust the switching device 4 base signal for a prolonged OFF-state period when the output voltage is too high and for a shortened OFF- state period when the output voltage is too low. Accordingly, control is effected so that the integrated quantity of the voltage applied to the primary winding 3 of a transformer 2 during an ON-state period is roughly constant, and the output voltage is also kept constant by controlling the length of the OFF-state period. This miniaturizes the transformer and enables the use of a low withstand voltage switching device.
