Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve yield of the blooming process by determining the cutting length from the total length of the billet which is informed as a video-signal from television cameras installed at the repstream side of the shears, and the required percentage of discard.
CONSTITUTION: Shears 90 and a stopper 91 are provided within the travel range of the billet 9, and the ingot 9 comes to a stop after its regregated portion discarded. Television cameras 11, 12, 13 are pointed at the points distant by X1, X2 and X3, respectively, from the shears 90. The video-signal output from control circuits 21, 22, 23 is indicated on a monitor 4, and at the same time fed into an operator 5 through a detector 3 by means of an input device 7. Percentage of discard in multiplied with the total length of the ingot, and cutting operation proceeds with calculated discard removed.
