Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a solid electrolyte cell capable of discharging for long hours at a minute current and at a high and stable dicharge voltage by using a mixture of thiophene and iodine as an anode and limiting the amount of water contained in the anode. CONSTITUTION:Lithium is used as a cathode 1, and a mixture of thiophene and iodine is used as an anode 3. Furthermore, the amount of water contained in the anode 3 is limited to 0.05% or less, by weight. The mixture used as the anode 3 forms a charge-transfer complex, and shows certain conductivity. Therefore, it is not necessary to add a conductive agent such as graphite, etc. By contacting the anode 3 and the lithium cathode 1 together, a solid electrolyte 2 made of lithium iodide is formed on the boundary area. Self-discharge from water and lithium can be avoided to some extent by limiting the amount of water contained in the anode 3, and lithium hydroxide can be prevented from accumulating on the boundary area between the anode 3 and the cathode 1.
