Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:Fluoran compounds of the formula wherein R1, R2 are each H, unsubstituted or a 1W4C alkoxy-substituted 1W4C alkyl, cyclohexyl, benzyl; R3 is H, a 1W4C alkyl; R4 is H, a 1W4C alkyl, allyl, propargyl; R5 is H, trifluoromethyl, halogen; X is H, nitro, halogen; m is 1, 2; n is 1W4.
EXAMPLE: 3-Diethylamino-1,6-dimethyl-7-anilinofluoran.
USE: Color coupler for color developing heat- or pressure-sensitive recording sheet, which gives black-colored image having excellent resistance to light, water, moisture, etc.
PREPARATION: A 5-substd. m-aminophenol derivative and phthalic anhydride are subjected to a dehydration condensation reaction. The resulting 2-(4'-di-substd. amino-2'-hydroxy-5'-benzoyl)benzoic acid is reacted with a diphenylamine derivative in the pressence of a dehydration/condensation agent. Then the reaction mixture is neutralized with an alkali.
