Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a compound optical node which performs high-speed switching operation by branching and coupling an optical signal, branched by a couple of electrooptical switches, to other waveguides by electrooptical switches provided to the waveguides. CONSTITUTION:When one switch 5, etc., of a couple of electrooptical branch switches of a compound optical node 3 is put in operation, an optical signal of wavelength lambda1, etc., from the bus line 1 of a computer, etc., is branched to propagate through an optical waveguide 12, a mirror 7, and an optical waveguide 14, and is then branched and coupled with optical waveguides 161-164 selected by electrooptical switches 9A1-9A4, etc. Then, the optical signal propagates to terminals through optical fibers 21-24. The propagation of optical signals from the terminals to the bus line 1 is the same, thus realizing a compound optical node capable of high-speed switching operation because the electrooptical switches are used. Further, when an optical amplifier, etc., is provided to the optical waveguide for multimode light, optical signals are processed in the same wave with single-mode light.
