Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the degree of weight balance of a rocker arm, by using a plurality of compressed springs and by gradually reducing the constant of the springs according as the deflection increases. CONSTITUTION:A compressed spring device C1 is provided with a first spring 15 of a constant K1, a second spring 16 of a constant K2 and a third spring 19 of a small constant. When a rocker arm 3 is in a swung position of 40 deg., the elastic forces of the springs 15, 16 are equalized to each other and set almost equal to clockwise torque based on the weight of the arm 3. Within the swing range of the arm 3 from its horizontal position to 40 deg., the springs 15, 16 act as a series-connected spring whose constant is smaller than that K2 and the counter-clockwise torque of the arm 3 is shown by a line B1. Within the swing range of the arm 3 from 40 deg. to 90 deg., only the spring 16 acts and the torque of the arm 3 is shown by a line B2. Within the swing range of the arm 3 over 90 deg., the torque of the arm 3 based on the spring 19 can be neglected. Since the differences between the lines B1, B2, A1, A2 are reduced, the degree of weight balance of the arm 3 is improved.
